All clinical aspects from diagnostics to surgery are treated within the Service, with specific expertise in limb-sparing surgery, thanks to the experience in functional and plastic reconstruction techniques, the availability of loco regional treatments (ILP, cryoablation), and the systematic multidisciplinary collaboration in the planning of treatment procedures and execution of surgical interventions.

Patients are offered a wide range of therapeutic possibilities, aligned with international standards, and opportunities for innovative treatments in controlled clinical trials.

Within its area of expertise, the mission of the Sarcoma Service is patient care, clinical research, dissemination and education.
The Service is involved in clinical activities both in in-patient and out-patient settings. In addition, INT Sarcom Service collaborates within a geographical network, being the Coordinator of the National Rare Tumour Network for sarcomas, and as a hub center of the regional Rete Oncologica Lombarda.
INT Sarcoma Service is a high-volume tertiary referral centre for sarcoma pathology.

Approximately 500 new patients per year are admitted and operated on, including at least 80 new patients with retroperitoneal sarcoma, representing one of the largest centres internationally.
The Service also offers a minimally invasive surgery programme (laparoscopic and robotic) for patients with GISTs or selected sarcomas.

INT Sarcoma Service is among the few Italian centres offering locoregional treatments such as isolated limb perfusion (ILP) for advanced limb sarcomas, and cryoablation for patients with desmoid-type fibromatosis.
Patients are taken care of with a multidisciplinary approach along with the Oncology and Radiotherapy Service of the local Sarcoma Program.

A dedicated Case Manager follows the patient through the diagnostic and therapeutic journey before surgery.
Patients are engaged in prehabilitation pathways, including nutrition assessment, patient blood management, chronic pain treatment.

A dedicated Research Nurse is in charge for all patients enrolled in clinical trials.
During hospital stay, a specialised nursing team is taking care of patient with primary nurse personalised care.
Telemedicine consultations are available upon request.

INT Sarcoma Service is participating in several clinical and translational research projects, with a prestigious academic track.
The clinical research collaborations of the INT Sarcoma Service include active participation in the Italian Sarcoma Group at the national level and leadership of the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma
Working Group (TARPSWG), an international consortium focused on retroperitoneal sarcoma research.

The Sarcoma Surgery Unit also lends its expertise within the framework of
existing collaborations with:

  • IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio for the treatment of sarcomas of the spine and pelvis
  • San Gerardo dei Tintori Hospital in Monza (S.C. Plastic Surgery) - for functional reconstructive surgery of the limbs
  • Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico in Rome

The Service is located at INT, Via Venezian 1, 20128 Milan - Block E, 3rd floor.
