Scientific Directorate

The Scientific Directorate promotes and coordinates the Institute’s scientific research activities and manages its budget, which is agreed annually with the General Manager, based on the approved financial statements and the guidelines set by the Board of Directors. 
Its main role is to promote and coordinate the strategic and programmatic lines of research, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and taking into account scientific research planning. 

The Scientific Directorate oversees the two research departments: the Department of Experimental Oncology, whose mission is to integrate genetic, immunological, pharmacological, and biological research capabilities into a coordinated and synergistic activity; and the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science, whose mission is to enrich epidemiological and biostatistical research with new bioinformatic approaches capable of interpreting "big data" generated by “omics” studies through computational models. 

The Scientific Directorate organizes its activities within three dedicated units: 

• the Clinical Trials Center, responsible for the coordination and management of clinical studies; 
• the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), which handles the legal and contractual aspects of research and the resulting intellectual property rights; 
• the Grant Office and Research Support Unit, which combines the functions of the Grant Office, Technical-Scientific Secretariat of the Territorial Ethics Committee Lombardia 4, Scientific Library, and Editorial Office of Tumori Journal. 

The Coordination and Services Office and the Directorate Secretariat complete the organizational structure by managing administrative and coordination functions.
