- Manages the various functional areas of the Scientific Directorate in an integrated manner, in line with the objectives defined by the Scientific Director.
- Coordinates research activities and projects as outlined in the Strategic Research Plan, which identifies strategic and development priorities on a three-year basis.
- Oversees strategic planning activities for institutional research, reporting, and the management of related funding. Annually, reports to the Ministry the results of current research activities, providing data on scientific output and its efficiency and impact (publications and related bibliometric indicators), ability to attract funding, capacity for networking (clinical trials and multicenter observational studies), care activities, and technology transfer. Responsible for reporting on results, activities, and ongoing research projects. Also manages the planning, administration, and financial reporting of current research funding.
- Administers the resources of the Institutional Research Fund, a tool that enables annual planning of improvement initiatives in the Research Area and investments in the quantity and quality of independent preclinical and clinical research, through tools such as institutional research lines, competitive institutional research calls, and the funding of strategic or proof-of-concept projects.
- Oversees the activities related to the reconfirmation of the IRCCS scientific status with the Ministry of Health.
- Coordinates the activities related to the evaluation of personnel employed in the healthcare research framework (the so-called "research pyramid").
- Manages the creation and maintenance of the Scientific Directorate’s databases (clinical-scientific staff of INT, research projects, scientific publications, submitted clinical studies), for the production of results required by the Ministry of Health and for monitoring research performance.
- Coordinates activities for the organization of events managed by the Scientific Directorate and the creation of materials, and handles the approval process for scientific initiatives.
