Dr. Callegaro Dario

Dr. Dario Callegaro is a surgical oncologist at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Italy, specializing in the treatment of patients with soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). 

Born in Milan in 1984, he earned his medical degree and completed his residency in General Surgery with honors at the University of Milan. From 2018 to 2020, he completed a Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto (Canada), where he refined his skills in multivisceral abdominal surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and the multidisciplinary management of complex oncologic patients. 

Since returning to Italy, he has been working in the Department of Surgery at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, where he is fully dedicated to the care of patients with soft tissue sarcomas of the limbs, retroperitoneum, and pelvis, as well as GISTs. He has particular expertise in complex abdominal surgery and minimally invasive approaches, including laparoscopic and robotic techniques. 

His research focuses on the development and implementation of prognostic and predictive models for patients with soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities and retroperitoneum. He is one of the creators of Sarculator, a mobile app used to estimate prognosis and identify candidates for neoadjuvant chemotherapy. 

Since its inception, he has been an active member of the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group (TARPSWG), where he currently coordinates the Education Committee. He is also a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, where he is involved in the Sarcoma Disease Site Work Group, of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, for which he is the Scientific Program Chair for the 2025 meeting, and of the Italian Sarcoma Group. 

Dr. Callegaro is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals.
