Radiotherapy for Genitourinary Tumors Unit
Milano
Via Giacomo Venezian, 1, 20133 Milano MI

The mission is to care for patients with tumors of the genitourinary system who are undergoing radiation treatment, with radical, post-surgical consolidation, or salvage purposes in patients with disease recurrence after first-line treatment (surgical or radiotherapeutic).
Radiation Oncologists actively participate in the clinical activities carried out within the Prostate Unit, both in outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary tumor boards. In particular, they ensure a structured and continuous presence during in-person visits held weekly at the multidisciplinary prostate clinic. They are also involved in the multidisciplinary activities concerning patients included in the active surveillance protocols of the Foundation.
This unit is also committed to the diagnostic-therapeutic pathways of various oncological diseases in the genitourinary field, with particular attention to testicular, bladder, and penile neoplasms. Its activities develop in close collaboration with dedicated medical oncologists and referring urologic surgeons through weekly meetings.
Radiation therapy is performed using the most modern irradiation techniques to ensure maximum therapeutic effectiveness. For the treatment of prostate and penile cancer, exclusive brachytherapy techniques, or in combination with external beam radiation therapy, are also employed.
Patients have the opportunity to undergo follow-up visits in dedicated clinics for monitoring therapeutic outcomes and early recognition of cases that may require salvage therapies.
The unit is also an institutional reference center for the active surveillance of patients with testicular cancer included in the Foundation's protocols.
This simple structure actively participates in numerous institutional clinical research projects linked to the Prostate Cancer Unit, aimed at:
- Evaluating the quality of life in radiated patients
- Recognition of biochemical and cellular factors related to radiation-induced toxicity, aimed at the formulation of a specific predictive model
- Optimization of prognostic profiles and diagnostic pathways in patients with prostate cancer undergoing active surveillance
