The Integrated Surgical Breast Unit, operating within the Complex Unit of General Surgery with a Focus on Oncology (Breast Surgery), with clinical and surgical activities aimed at the planning, scheduling and implementation of randomised (and non-randomised) clinical trials approved by the CTS/CE, as well as their management, within the context of the multidisciplinary and interdepartmental operational model defined by the Breast Unit.
The cornerstone of Clinical Breast Surgery is a multidisciplinary approach, as demonstrated by daily clinical practice and numerous scientific studies; specific coordination for more efficient and synergistic collaboration with Medical Oncology, for the recruitment of patients into joint studies, as well as with other surgical departments, with Radiology and Radiotherapy, with Epidemiology, Experimental Oncology and Medical Genetics, enables the department to play a strategic role in clinical research, in the testing of new surgical approaches and in clinical-translational research, as well as in the implementation of innovative organisational models. The focus will be on Phase I–II–III surgical clinical trials; translational studies; retrospective cohort studies approved by the CTS/CE and nominally assigned; and the testing of integrated and innovative organisational models for breast cancer.
