My research activities developed around the understanding of Ovarian Cancer biology with the final goal of improving patients’ prognostic definition and possibly identifying new therapeutic strategies.
Initially focused on the study of mechanisms of disease progression and drug resistance, researches are now mainly in the translational field and concern the identification and validation of prognostic/predictive markers of response to therapies and new therapeutic targets.
My experience includes both biological and functional studies in 2D/3D and ex-vivo cellular models and the management and analysis of 'omics' (bulk) data derived from patient biopsies for the characterization of the transcriptional (microRNA, mRNA), genomic and metabolic profile with potential prognostic relevance.
In this field I contributed to develop a predictor of early disease relapse based on the expression profile of microRNAs with relevant clinical implications and to identify alterations in choline metabolism that contribute to the aggressiveness of ovarian cancer and are now recognized as promising novel therapeutic targets.
