Our mission 

 
The Oncology Day Hospital is a facility dedicated to the administration of oncology therapies in diurnal regime that allows patients to receive highly specialized care without the need for prolonged hospitalization . 
Since 30 years it is a national reference point for the treatment of oncological diseases and is dedicated to the administration of parenteral oncology treatments for adult patients suffering from the following pathologies.  

 
• Breast neoplasms 
• Neoplasms of the gastroenteric-pancreatic-biliary tract  
• Thoracic neoplasms 
• neoplasms of neuroendocrine origin 
• Neoplasms of the urinary genitalia 
• Melanoma and other skin cancers 
• Head and neck neoplasms 
• Sarcomas 
• Liver cancer 
• Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, Multiple myeloma and other oncohematological diseases 

 
The patient’s centrality is the target of our mission: each person is followed with tailored therapeutic regimens according to the internal PDTA and national and international guidelines by a multidisciplinary team composed of:  

  • Specialist outpatient oncologists according to the type of disease, Specialised and research nurses,  
  • Hospital pharmacists for centralised treatment,  


Up to 114 treatment slots can be booked daily, as well as 18 central vascular access maintenance/removal of elastomeric pumps. 
Each month, approximately 1500 patients are referred from 26 outpatient examination rooms belonging to the 10 pathology groups. 
In the last year, around 27000 benefits were provided. 

Approximately 25% of patients participate in clinical trials with new generation therapeutic and/or drug schemes , operating within the Department of Oncology and Hematology, the DHO is an active part of major national and international clinical studies, In collaboration with cancer networks, to develop ever more effective precision therapies. 

This allows patients to access, where appropriate, innovative and experimental therapies always at the forefront,  

 

The main services 

• Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, conventional and experimental molecular target therapies 

• Administration monitoring and management of acute side effects with pharmacovigilance 

• Periodic maintenance of central venous catheters 

 

In detail 

The SSD DHO is open to patients from 8 am to 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday . 

The structure has 8 rooms with 33 stations (19 seats and 14 beds ). + 1 maintenance room for CVC/ elastomer removal/ IM/ SC injections ( 3 seats and 1 bed ) open from 9 am to 13.30 pm from Monday to Friday.  

The medical nursing staff is composed of 1 Medical Manager  , 2 senior doctors, 1 Nursing Coordinator, 16 Nurses and 6 OSS/OT 

The access in DHO for the provision of treatment takes place with binding SSN after:  

  • taken in charge by the pathological Referents through First visit or Multidisciplinary visit or Hospitalization to define the therapeutic path  
  • pre-therapy visit in outpatient rooms +/- examination evaluation, prescribing of therapy and scheduling of subsequent appointments directly in the visit room 

 

The types of medical benefits available in DHO are: 

  • Short iv infusions (=/< 90 minutes ) delivered on the same day of the visit;  medium long iv infusions ( =/> 90 minutes - 2 hours)  delivered on the next working day after the visit; IM and SC injections 
  • MAC 01; MAC 02; MAC 11  
  • DHM Access 
  • CVC maintenance for patients of the Department of Oncology and Hematology

The SSD DHO participates in all Phase I-II-III trials for profit and nonprofit involving parenteral administration of the Department of Oncology and Haematology and Surgery I approved by the Ethics Committee

Patient visiting hours: Not applicable. Patients are ambulatory and access is daytime. Only patients enter the facility and Escorts are admitted only in special cases
