Dr. Orlandi Rosaria

Rosaria Orlandi is expert in biotechnology and cancer translational research. She is used to work in international and multidisciplinary projects and is currently focused on computational approaches to medicine and Mass-Spectrometry-based approaches for innovative clinical applications. 

She pioneered the application of breath analysis to clinical practice, leading the development of the INT platform of breath analysis which includes an innovative sampling system, a secondary electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) detection system and dedicated data analysis tools.  

The platform was developed by an inter-disciplinary workgroup that includes research and clinical personnel (chemists,  statisticians, medical doctors, research nurses, a physicist and  biotechnologists/biologists). In  collaboration with INT Clinical Engineering and biotechnology companies she developed  novel tools and translational solutions for the application of breath analysis to oncology. 

The platform has been used to profile the exhaled breath of more than 1500 controls and cancer patients within two clinical breath analysis projects focused on the identification of volatile cancer-related signatures for head and neck (HNC) and breast cancer early detection.
