- Morphological Sciences
I am a medical pathologist with a solid academic background and professional skills in dermatopathology and ocular pathology.
I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, where I also obtained a specialization diploma in Pathology and a PhD in Morphological Sciences.
I have taught Human Anatomy and Histology as a Contract Professor in various degree courses in the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy at the University of Milan.
Since 2016, I have been working at Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, where I am actively involved in histopathological diagnostics and research in the field of cutaneous and ocular neoplastic pathology, particularly melanoma.
Over the years, I have collaborated on several research projects and clinical protocols, also winning the "Niccolò Sartori" award in 2021 for innovative therapies in melanoma treatment from the Italian Society of Oncology.
I am a member of the multidisciplinary teams "Melanoma and Skin Cancer" and "Uveal Melanoma," and I also collaborate with national and European working groups focused on the study and discussion of various aspects of melanocytic pathology.
- Project “Pediatric Melanomas DSP” (funded by ESSELUNGA): aimed at comparing melanomas that developed in childhood with those that developed in adulthood using transcriptomic and spatial genomic techniques.
- Project MELCAYA: aimed at better understanding the risk factors and determinants of juvenile melanoma to improve its prevention, diagnosis, and prognosis.
- AIRC 5 per mille Project “Epigenetic modeling/remodeling of cancer metastasis and tumor immune contexture to improve efficacy of immunotherapy”: aimed at studying the epigenetic mechanisms that regulate and modulate the anti-tumor immune response.
- AGILITY Study: aimed at analyzing skin immune modulation in patients with primary melanoma undergoing an acute exercise session prior to radical surgery.
- Project “Uveal Melanoma Human Technopole”: aimed at studying, through spatial transcriptomic techniques, primary uveal melanoma and liver metastases to identify new molecular targets involved in the anti-tumor immune response.
- Project “Dissecting translational correlates of response to anti-PD1 and anti-EGFR in patients with advanced cutaneous squamous cell cancer enrolled in the prospective phase II INT-sponsored trial I-Tackle (NCT03666325) by an ex-vivo 3D culture platform of patient-derived tumor explants”: aimed at studying the characteristics of the tumor microenvironment in response to pembrolizumab in an ex-vivo model of 3D cultures in a bioreactor of viable tumor fragments.
- Study “Reproducibility of PD-L1 information and score in melanoma tissue samples: a multicenter study of the Italian Melanoma Intergroup (IMI)”: aimed at investigating the reproducibility of PD-L1 assessment among pathologists.
