Born in Ragusa on March 3, 1976, he graduated in 1994 from the Liceo Classico “Umberto I” in Ragusa. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery with 110 cum laude from the University of Bologna in 2002, discussing an experimental thesis in Dermatology entitled “The atypical nevus, correlations between clinic, dermatoscopy and histopathology”. He was authorized to practice medicine in February 2003. Already an intern at the Dermatology Clinic of the Policlinico S.Orsola in Bologna, after a 6-month period in 2006 as a Visiting Registrar at the Radcliffe Hospital of Oxford University in the UK, he obtained the Specialization in Dermatology and Venereology with top marks and honors in October 2006, discussing an experimental thesis on Photodynamic Therapy for the treatment of actinic keratosis of the scalp. 

In November 2006 he joined the multidisciplinary team of skin tumors at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO – IRCCS) in Milan (Directed by Prof Umberto Veronesi). In 2010 he was a guest fellow for 2 months at the Dermatology Clinic of the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona (Spain) directed by Prof J Malvehy and S Puig. In 2011 he obtained the title of Doctor of Research in Dermatological and Maxillofacial Reconstructive and Plastic Sciences at the University of Bologna, with full marks and honors, presenting a thesis entitled: “Electrochemotherapy for cutaneous and subcutaneous tumor lesions”. 

Since February 2020, he has been in the Melanoma Surgery team directed by Dr M. Santinami at the IRCCS National Cancer Institute in Milan. 

Always dedicated to Oncological and Surgical Dermatology, with particular interest in advanced diagnostic technologies and their applications for non-invasive diagnostics, for monitoring dermatological treatments, for the follow-up of high-risk patients. 

Since 2012 he has been involved in confocal laser microscopy (virtual biopsy) of skin tumors.
