Dr. Fumagalli Elena

Dr. Elena Fumagalli, a medical oncologist, has consistently focused on rare cancers, with highly specialized clinical expertise in adult mesenchymal tumors and a particular interest in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). 

Currently serving at the Medical Oncology 2 – Mesenchymal and Rare Tumors at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, she has developed specific clinical and scientific expertise in GIST, which remains her main area of focus. 

She graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1996 and completed her residency in Medical Oncology at San Gerardo dei Tintori Hospital in Monza, graduating with top marks in 2001. 

She has participated in national and international studies on innovative strategies and therapies for sarcomas and GIST, including research that contributed to the regulatory approval of the first molecularly targeted drugs used in oncology. 

She is currently the Principal Investigator of international clinical trials on next-generation drugs for advanced-stage GIST. 

Dr. Fumagalli has also contributed to the development of the Italian National Rare Cancer Network, a pathology-based professional network coordinated by the Medical Oncology 2 Unit, where she is actively involved in teleconsultation activities for the discussion of clinical cases. 

She is an active member of the Italian Sarcoma Group, where she serves as the coordinator of the Working Group on collaboration with patient advocacy groups. 

With over 100 publications, including papers and abstracts, she has made significant contributions to the scientific literature on sarcomas, with a particular focus on GIST.
