Dr. Aiello graduated in Biological Sciences in 1987 and postgraduated in Genetics in 2003 at the University of Milan.
She has been working at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori since 1985. In the first decade, as fellowship and contract Researcher, she was involved in projects on molecular mechanisms underlying lymphomagenesis, being awarded two prizes for research.
In 1997 she attended the Molecular Pathology laboratory at the UCL Medical School of London, learning new techniques for the study of dissemination and residual disease in lymphoma.
She is now working as Senior Scientist on the permanent staff at the Department of Advanced Diagnostics. She is responsible for the clinical flow cytometric activity on haematological neoplasms, employing advanced instruments and polychromatic panels for the diagnosis and monitoring of acute and chronic diseases.
Over years she has participated to research projects on mechanisms of tumour initiation and progression in medullary thyroid carcinoma and has been actively involved in studies on measurable residual disease evaluation in hematological patients treated with targeted therapies, publishing several papers on these topics.
She worked as flow cytometry trainer for technicians and biologists at the University of Milan and at conferences of the Italian Cytometry Society.
She regularly attends multidisciplinary clinical-scientific meetings of the Hematology Unit.
