Prof. Vincenzo Mazzaferro is a full Professor of Surgery at the University of Milan, where he also coordinates the Clinical Practice course within the International Medical School. He carries out his clinical activities at the National Cancer Institute (Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori) of Milan, Italy’s largest public research and treatment center dedicated to cancer, where he leads multidisciplinary teams specializing in liver and transplantation, pancreas and biliary tract, upper digestive tract, and neuroendocrine tumors. He graduated with honors and distinction from the University of Turin and received his specialist training in Surgery and Oncology at the University of Milan, as well as in liver transplantation surgery at the University of Pittsburgh (USA). His clinical and research work is internationally recognized for its scientific rigor, innovative approach, and humanization of the relationship between medicine and patients. He is co-author of the clinical practice guidelines issued by the most prominent international scientific societies in this field. Prof. Mazzaferro has published 540 scientific articles and holds an H-index of 98. He has performed thousands of surgical procedures and received numerous awards, including the EASL Recognition Award, the Venosta Prize from the Italian Association for Cancer Research, and recognitions from the Société Française de Chirurgie Digestive, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe. He was awarded the Ambrogino d’Oro by the City of Milan and was appointed Commendatore dell’Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic. He is the founder of the Prometeo Association, which addresses the social and healthcare needs of patients, and is a highly respected mentor for many students and physicians training in his department.
