PhD Di Cosimo Serena

Degree in Medicine and Surgery summa cum laude from Campus Bio-Medico University, Rome; residency in Medical Oncology at “La Sapienza” University of Rome; fellowship in breast cancer at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona (Spain); PhD in "Life, Health and Chemical Sciences" at the Open University, Milton Keynes (UK). 

Twenty years of experience in breast cancer research and treatment. Author of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 40) on tumor heterogeneity and microenvironment, therapeutic de-escalation, and the use of tissue and circulating biomarkers for patient selection and clinical outcome assessment. 

Within the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), served as Chair of the Young Oncologists Committee and member of the Executive Board. Currently Secretary of the Executive Board of the regional branch of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM-Lombardy). 

Honors and awards include: AIOM Young Investigator Award, ASCO Young Investigator Award, and ESMO Fellowship. Former Academic Director within the DigiCore network for digital research, actively involved in international consortia and working groups such as the Breast International Group, SOLTI, and MEDSIR, and strongly engaged in patient advocacy through collaborations with Europa Donna and LILT. 

Since returning to Italy in 2012, recipient of 16 research grants from national funding bodies (AIOM, AIRC) and the European Commission, focusing on neoadjuvant therapy and the integration of -omics technologies in breast cancer, with more recent projects in the field of artificial intelligence.
