Dr. Matteo Virdis graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan and completed his residency in General Surgery with distinction. He subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Transplantation Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milano-Bicocca. 

Since 2020, he has been serving as Consultant Surgeon at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, where he has carried out his professional training since the early years of residency. 

He performs oncologic surgery of medium and high complexity, with a focus on hepatobiliary, pancreatic, gastric, esophageal, and intestinal diseases. His surgical expertise includes open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches, employing advanced technologies for precision surgery such as fluorescence imaging, intraoperative ultrasound, cholangiography, and ablative techniques. 

Dr. Virdis is actively involved in liver transplantation programs for both primary and secondary oncologic indications, contributing to the evaluation of transplant candidates, organ procurement (from both donation after brain death [DBD] and donation after circulatory death [DCD]), transplant procedures, and ex situ organ perfusion. 

He also participates in outpatient clinical activities and is one of the designated physicians responsible for the management of the liver transplant waiting list. In addition to his clinical duties, he is engaged in teaching and mentoring medical students and surgical residents from the University of Milan. 

Dr. Virdis is the author or co-author of several scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and actively participates in multicenter clinical studies in the fields of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery and transplantation.
