Dr. Tamborini Elena

Senior Biologist with extensive expertise in oncological molecular diagnostics and research. Currently serving as Head of the Molecular Diagnostics and Research Unit at the Foundation, she oversees both clinical and translational activities, with a particular focus on technological advancements—especially Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)—for the identification of therapeutic biomarkers, including liquid biopsy approaches. 

From 2010 to 2023, she contributed to diagnostic and managerial activities within the Molecular Pathology Laboratory, playing a key role in the development of gene panels for personalized medicine. 

Prior to this, from 1999 to 2010, she conducted research on sarcomas as Principal Investigator of AIRC-funded projects, also mentoring young researchers. 

Her early experience, from 1994 to 1996, was at the DIBIT of the San Raffaele Institute, where she analyzed recombinant allergenic proteins. She holds a degree in Biological Sciences and has further specialized in molecular biology applied to oncology. 

As the  reference for NGS analyses in Regione Lombardia, she is also responsible for laboratory quality and safety. An active member of the Molecular Tumor Board, she integrates research and clinical practice to advance the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.
