Daniele Lecis is a Staff Researcher at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, within the Unit of Molecular Immunology, where he coordinates a multidisciplinary research group. After graduating with honors in Veterinary Biotechnology at the University of Milan, he earned a PhD in Life and Biomolecular Sciences at The Open University (UK), focusing on the study of inhibitors of apoptosis (IAPs) as therapeutic targets in oncology.
His scientific work focuses on the interaction between tumor cells and the microenvironment, with particular attention to the role of mast cells and the epigenetic protein JMJD6 in the progression of breast cancer, as well as on the study of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) as a novel target to enhance the effectiveness of immunotherapies. He is the Principal Investigator of projects funded by national bodies (including AIRC and the Italian Ministry of Health) and is responsible for animal experimentation protocols in the field of oncology.
Author of over 50 articles published in indexed scientific journals and of an international patent, he actively participates in the activities of the Institute’s Scientific Directorate, is a member of internal committees, and serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals. He also supervises PhD students and regularly collaborates on integrated projects with experts in immunology, functional genomics, and translational oncology.
