Nuclear Medicine Therapy

Milano
Via Giacomo Venezian, 1, 20133 Milano MI

Typology: Clinical Area, Simple Structure

Medical-Nuclear Inpatient Unit:
The Unit has been in operation for over 20 years and, over time, has been able to provide complex clinical treatments to a large number of cancer patients, specialising in various types of tumours. The ward has 4 rooms with 6 inpatient beds. Specifically, the following treatments are carried out:

  • radioiodine therapy for thyroid tumours;
  • therapy with radiolabelled somatostatin analogues for neuroendocrine tumours in adults;
  • therapy with radiolabelled catecholamine analogues (131I-mIBG) for paediatric and adult neuroendocrine tumours;
  • Zevalin® (90Y-Ibritumomab tiuxetan) therapy for non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas;
  • osteotropic radiopharmaceutical therapies for patients with skeletal metastases;
  • locoregional therapy via hepatic artery infusion of radiolabelled yttrium microspheres in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

Outpatient services
These are provided on a daily basis and are divided into three categories:

  • Endocrinology clinics: patients with endocrine disorders, whether primary or arising as a result of cancer, are assessed. A key feature is the auxological aspect, which focuses on paediatric patients with endocrine deficiencies secondary to central nervous system tumours or to anti-tumour treatments. This latter activity is carried out in a multidisciplinary manner in close collaboration with colleagues from Paediatric Oncology;
  • Nuclear medicine clinics: aimed at patients who have undergone or are due to undergo nuclear medicine treatments, in particular those with thyroid neoplasms and neuroendocrine tumours;
  • multidisciplinary thyroid pathology clinics: these are for patients with thyroid conditions who, visiting this Institute for the first time, require a clinical and therapeutic assessment covering both medical-endocrinological and surgical aspects. These clinics are staffed by a specialist surgeon (ENT or Maxillofacial Surgeon) and a specialist in thyroid disorders (Endocrinologist or Nuclear Medicine Specialist).
