The Pharmacy Department is responsible for providing services and information to ensure effective, safe and cost-effective treatment, with a view to promoting the appropriate and rational use of medicines and other medical supplies.
It contributes to the process of selecting, procuring and preparing therapies of proven efficacy, providing all necessary information to ensure that medicines and medical supplies are used to the greatest benefit and with the least risk to patients.
It also collaborates with the Ethics Committee and the Clinical Trials Centre in conducting clinical research through the management and provision of investigational medicinal products in accordance with Good Clinical Practice.
It also provides for the direct distribution of medicines to patients, supplying specialist medicines listed in a document known as the ‘Hospital-Community Formulary’ (PHT), and Category H medicines (for hospital use only) to patients under the care of the Foundation’s specialist doctors.

The Pharmacy is an accredited centre for the practical training of trainee pharmacists specialising in hospital pharmacy
