Chairmanship

The President of the Foundation is appointed by the Board of Directors on the recommendation of the President of the Lombardy Region, after consultation with the Minister responsible for health. The President is the legal representative of the Foundation. He acts and defends the Foundation in legal proceedings before any administrative or judicial authority, appointing lawyers. He receives a quarterly report from the Director General and the Scientific Director to check and monitor that administrative, management and research activities are consistent with the approved programmes and are directed towards the set objectives.

He or she manages relations with bodies, institutions, public and private enterprises and other organisations, including with a view to establishing collaborative relationships and support for the Foundation’s individual initiatives. In urgent cases, in matters falling within the competence of the Board of Directors, the President may take any necessary and appropriate measures, subjecting them to ratification by the Board at its next meeting.

The President is assisted by a staff office, as provided for in the Corporate Organisation Plan, with the following functions:

• Institutional Relations
• Communication and Press Office
• Strategic Control

The President is also assisted by the following functions:

• Institutional Relations and International Cooperation
• Fundraising
• Secretary to the Board of Directors
   

The President may also, in consultation with the Director-General, make use of the Foundation’s organisational structures in the performance of his or her duties.
