The Clinical Engineering Complex Unit, which reports to the Health Directorate, is responsible for the safe, appropriate and cost-effective management of technologies and equipment in the clinical setting. This involves the assessment, installation, maintenance and upgrading of existing instruments and equipment, as well as collaboration with healthcare professionals in the application of engineering methodologies to resolve clinical and management issues.
Among its various activities, the main ones are Health Technology Assessment, procurement planning, computerised management of the technology portfolio through to decommissioning, engineering of the maintenance process, management of equipment safety and quality, and training of healthcare staff.
The Clinical Engineering Department is ISO 9001:2008 certified; therefore, all activities are carried out in accordance with procedures formalised within the Foundation’s Quality System.
