DIAGNOSTIC WORK-UP AND DEFINITION OF THERAPEUTIC STRATEGY
Collegial discussion and multidisciplinary meeting for the definition and sharing of the NET patient’s therapeutic strategy.
The INT NET's diagnostic and therapeutic strategy is based on the integration of medical oncologist, surgeon, pathologist, gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, nuclear physician, radiologist and endoscopist with dedicate expertise in field of neuroendocrine tumours.
Collaboration and sharing of diagnostic and therapeutic pathways by specialists allows the best quality of care for these rare forms of cancer. Since 2010, the multidisciplinary group "Tumour Board NET" of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Tumori di Milano, has been certified by the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) as a GEP-NET Center for Excellence.
INT TRASLATIONAL AND CLINICAL RESEARCH
The Excellence Center's diagnostic and therapeutic clinical activities are integrated by the completion of innovative, clinical, biological and translational scientific research protocols. In this sense, new controlled retrospective and Phase I-II-III clinical trials are designed to evaluate the therapeutic and biological efficacy of new innovative molecules and the experimental immunotherapy (Oncologia medica 1).
New radio-labeled peptide receptors on nuclear medicine are assessed (Medicina Nucleare) and new surgical strategies like as the liver transplantation in certain categories of patients with metastatic liver disease are recommended (Chirurgia).
Various scientific and ongoing scientific initiatives also involve in a close collaboration with the Department of Pathology of the Institute (Anatomia Patologica 1), which has always been dedicated to neuroendocrine pathology.
