Analytical Epidemiology and Health Impact Unit

Descrizione:

The Analytical Epidemiology and Health Impact Unit (EAIS) conducts population based observational studies, mostly aimed to analyse cancer patients outcomes.
The EAIS has developed and coordinated EUROCARE, the largest cancer registry based project on survival of European cancer patients. In collaboration with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, since the nineties the project monitors European cancer patients survival across European countries and overtime. Presently the 6° round is ongoing, to which 120 cancer registries in 26 countries contributes with > 1 million patients.
To integrate survival estimates, the unit coordinates the European “High resolution studies” (http://www.hrstudies.it/), collecting more clinical information than is routinely provided by cancer registries for representative samples of patients with different neoplasms. Real wordl data are also used to analyse patterns of care, outcomes and appropriateness of procedures
In addition to these activities, the unit:

  • Manages the INT breast cancer registry, which is based on electronic data collection from institutional clinical archives (eg pathology. records, imaging archives, electronic clinical record). The registry was set up in 2012 and to date it includes data from 11150 breast cancer cases.
  • Supports the scientific direction, by counducting bibliometric data analyses for institutional and public reports documenting the INT scientific productivity.
  • Contributes to planning, developing and managing the INT data wharehouse (in collaboration with ICT); contributes to the development of methodologies for intra- and extra-institutional data sharing.
  • Is engaged in scientific educational activities by tutoring post doc students, in convention with Milano universities.
