The Medical Statistics and Biometry Unit provides quantitative support to the development of the research activity of Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori (INT) and other national or international research Institutions, with strengths and competency in methodological and collaborative research, consulting and graduate training. Staff members hold chief investigator and/or associate investigator status on various projects, and also provide regular advice on many statistical issues within other research projects. The INT activity is enforced by the convention with the University of Milan. The combination of different expertise provides a synergistic environment to actively pursue cross disciplinary research.

Research and consulting activities are mainly related to the areas of basic experimental research, assay development and quality control, bioinformatics and translational research, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. Moreover, the Unit is involved in specifical epidemiological research projects.

The Unit offers a number of courses. Postgraduate teaching includes biostatistics and computing subjects hosting for stage period students of the Master in Medical and Statistical Methods for Epidemiology. PhD Students of Biostatistics are directly involved in research projects coordinated by the Unit members. Other activities include a series of lectures in statistics and seminars for researchers at INT didactic sector and Cascina Rosa Campus.
